Every day you come to class, you know what you will see. The same old desks, the same old room, even the same old me. Even the Morning Work is getting old, the poems are too long. It seems there's more poem than Morning Work, and that is just plain wrong. So today will be a bit different, no longer will I stall. It's get right down to Morning Work, I'll keep the intro small. No lengthy introduction, no labored, lengthy rhyme. No more pointless rambling. We just don't have the time. We have no time to waste, that's true. I want to work, and so do you. So let's get to it, shall we? On your mark. Get set and go. In Morning Work, we will review the things your s' posed to know. Did you notice how I changed that word? I made my own contraction! But enough beating around the bush. Let's get to the action! Let's get right down to Morning Work and start our day off right. There's a bird outside my window. Isn't that a sight? CONCENTRATE Mr. Mac! There's work that must be done. The students are not interested in goofing off and having fun. So here we go. It's Morning Work without further delay. Attention students. Here it is your Morning Work for today. A daily review. A look ahead. Whatever will you find? But before we start, there's one more thing. If y'all don't mind. Please get started on your work. There's not much time, you see. The Morning Work . . oh wait a sec. I need some more coffee. Ok I'm back. Now where was I? Oh yes. We cannot wait. We must get right to Morning Work. We can't procrastinate. The Morning Work today includes work every student knows. It's all about . . excuse me, please. I must blow my nose. This nagging cold won't go away. I really feel quite bad. But enough about me, here's Morning Work. Aren't you finally glad? Aren't you glad to be done with this silly poem? Before I forget, be sure to take your Tuesday folder home. There's a paper there your folks must sign . . MAN! Your morning work! If the kids don't get it pretty soon, they will go berserk! Students often go berserk, which reminds me of a story. It happened when a teacher got real mad at my sister Laurie. It was a Tuesday morning . . TUESDAY MORNING . .! Not again! You have to get to Morning Work. If not right now, then when? Pretty soon it will be lunchtime. I wonder what they'll eat. Probably some pizza and a cookie for a treat. I'll really like the cookies. I could eat them night and day. Except for in the morning, I . . MORNING! Oh no way! You STILL don't have Your Morning Work? What is going on? You still don't have your Morning Work and morning's almost gone. So quickly, here's your Language. Hurry! Do your Math. Go straight to Social Studies. Get off this meandering path. Don't waste time! Do your Reading, then Science, right away. There is no time to dawdle. We've wasted half a day! The point I'm trying hard to make is you can stall the entire day. But, while work is easy to avoid, it doesn't go away.
